• I had to write an oceanography themed poem on my timed Oceanography test. My knowledge of poetry is limited to limited to haiku, limericks, and iambic pentameter. So you work with what you know. Without further ado, I give you this hastily written literary splendor

    Bathymetry Haiku

    Bathymetry is
    the measuring of the sea
    How low can it go?

    First they used a rope
    to measure the oceans depth
    that takes way to long

    Then Echo Sounders
Ping Ping Now you know the depth
    This is much faster

    Even using a
    multi-beam system to map
    One centuries time

    The eye in the sky
could be used to map the sea
    how, is the question?

    Distortion of Sea
    lets Satellites measure the
    depths of the ocean

  • Over the weekend I hiked up to Coal Creek Falls in the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park. Its a nice little hike with this great looking waterfall & stream in the center of the trail. Look below for some more pictures. I’ll definitely be coming back with the Camera in the coming weeks.

Total distance traveled was about 4 miles. Most of the hike is a super highway but it can get pretty muddy in some areas… Lots of people on the trail.

I originally found out about this trail through the Washington Trails Association, which is a cool website that lists all the great hiking trails throughout Washington state. Here is their article about Coal Creek Falls, and here is an article about other great winter trails that I plan on hiking in the coming weeks.

From Seattle, take I-90 east. At exit 13, go right onto Lakemont Boulevard SE and drive 3 miles. Just before a long bend in the road, go left into the parking area.

  • Found this awesome zombie themed art while browsing the web. Its drawn by an artist who goes by Jason Chan. He has some pretty cool imagery on his website, though some of it is a tad Not Safe For Work. You have been warned. His gallery doesn’t seem to be updated anymore. Instead he seems to be opting to post his latest art directly to his blog.

Also if his artwork looks familiar to you, its probably because you saw it in the special features section of the I Am Legend DVD. Jason was commissioned to do two of the comics for the movie. They turned out really well plus you can even view them online here. Warning blood and sad music.

  • Mustache Pint Glass

    pint_mustache2

I’m digging these Mustache Pint Glasses… What can’t you improve with a stache? (Besides a hot Italian girl?)

The Stache itself is etched into the glass, so no worries about it wearing thin. Plus it doesn’t require any waxing…

You can pick up one of these bad boys for 15$ or you can grab a 4 pack for 50$. pint_mustache_model

  • I’d just like to take a moment to complain about the lack of awesome FCUK Batman The Dark Knight T-shirts in the US. See all those awesome T-shirts there at the bottom of this page? I’m particularly a fan of the Heath Ledger inspired Joker t-shirt.

You know how many we can purchase in the US?

Just this guy. I can’t even drive up to the Canadian stores because they only have 1 shirt to choose from as well. The spirit is willing FCUK! Its just that I don’t have the money/time to fly to Europe at the moment. Plus I don’t enjoy paying some chain smoker on ebay 3 times the price to pick one up for me either. Anywho thats my little rant for today. Enjoy the awesome t-shirts…

UPDATE (March 26, 09): Just checked the various FCUK online stores and they are no longer carrying any of the Batman shirts listed above.
